Roster And Draft Class Breakdown: Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs will have some major competition in the AFC West. Not having Tyreek Hill could really cost them. Can they win without him? Let’s break it all down.
Defense
George Karlaftis will get a chance to make an impact right away. The first rounder from Purdue has pressure and get to the QB. He joins Derrick Nnadi, and Chris Jones, and Frank Clark up front. Nick Bolton, Jermaine Carter Jr, and Willie Gay are in the heart of the defense. Leo Chenal was picked in round three from Wisconsin. He played both ways and has a good IQ. The secondary needed work in order to keep up with this crazy division. First round pick Trent McDuffie from Washington slides in right away with L’Jarius Sneed, Justin Reid, and Juan Thornhill. Bryan Cook will back up Reid. He was a second rounder from Cincy. Fourth rounder Joshua Williams is from DII Fayetteville State. He needs time to develop as a corner. Finally, Jaylen Waston from from Washington State and Nazeeh Johnson from Marshall were both seventh round picks.
Offense
Any team with Patrick Mahomes has a very good chance of winning. We don’t need to waste time talking about how great he is. Can the run game be just as good led by Clyde Edwards-Helaire? Isaih Pancheco was a seventh rounder from Rutgers. He is a long shot. JuJu Smith-Shuster, Mecole Hardman, and Marquez Valdez- Scantling join Travis Kelce as the main pass catchers. Skyy Moore was taken in round two from Western Michigan. He led the NCAA in catches and yards on slants. Michael Burton is the fullback who does a little bit of everything. Orlando Brown Jr, Joe Thuney, Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, and Andrew Wylie are the protection. Darian Kinnard from Kentucky enters the fold as a fifth round pick.
Draft Misses And Projection
KC is lacking a real WR1, a legit run game and a really good right tackle. This division is going to be fun. Because KC lost some major production and may not have done enough to make up for it, they very well could miss the playoffs and be at the bottom of the west.
