Softball Spotlight: Kaley Mudge
The next softball player I wanted to highlight is Kaley Mudge. Mudge really burst onto the scene at the end of the regular season and during the Women’s College World Series. She started the last 14 games of the season, and became the go-to option in left field for the tournament. Her speed around the bases gave Florida State a big boost as a runner, and in the stolen base department. Kaley Mudge always looks like she’s having the time of her life when she plays.
History Books
If you look up the definition of spark plug or energizer bunny, you will find a picture of Kaley Mudge next to it. She had the hot bat in Oklahoma. She exploded offensively breaking the record for most hits in the WCWS with 14. She also became the first student athlete to record five hits in a seven inning WCWS game, this happened June 7th against Alabama.
The exciting part for folks in the program is that she did all of this in her redshirt freshman year. Her true freshman year was shortened due to the pandemic. Going into the season, she is the favorite to get the starting nod in left and is expected to continue to contribute at the plate. USA Softball should keep Mudge on they’re radar for future opportunities and it looks like she has a very bright future in the sport.
